BORGWARNER TO DISPLAY NEW EGR AND THERMAL MANAGEMENT TECHNOLOGIES AT 65th IAA COMMERCIAL VEHICLES IN GERMANY

BorgWarner’s Advanced Technologies Improve Engine Cooling, Efficiency and Fuel Economy while Reducing Emissions for Commercial Diesel Engines

Auburn Hills, Michigan, August 21, 2014 – BorgWarner will present its new exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) modules and controlled coolant pump for commercial diesel engines in Hall 12, Booth B26, at this year’s International Motor Show (IAA Commercial Vehicles) in Hanover, Germany, from September 25 to October 2. BorgWarner’s highly efficient EGR modules integrate an EGR cooler, EGR valve and bypass valve into one system to optimize exhaust gas recirculation and provide improved reliability, response and efficiency. BorgWarner’s controlled coolant pump optimizes engine temperature and reduces parasitic losses, improving fuel economy up to 1.5 percent compared with a standard coolant pump. In addition, BorgWarner will display a variety of its innovative technologies, such as regulated two-stage (R2S®) and variable turbine geometry (VTG) turbochargers, fans and Visctronic® fan drives, diesel cold start technologies and thermostats.

“BorgWarner’s highly engineered technologies help new diesel engines meet next-level emissions standards, while improving fuel economy and significantly increasing efficiency,” said James R. Verrier, President and Chief Executive Officer, BorgWarner. “BorgWarner’s EGR technologies offer customers a complete solution in one compact package, and our advanced controlled coolant pump provides efficient and reliable cooling for modern light-duty and heavy-duty engines.”

New engines for commercial diesel vehicles require state-of-the-art EGR systems, one of the most effective methods for reducing NOx emissions. Engineered to offer high durability, BorgWarner’s new EGR modules provide tailor-made solutions for a variety of powertrain applications including low-pressure and high-pressure EGR systems. BorgWarner’s EGR cooler employs highly corrosion-resistant stainless steel hybrid or corrugated tubes to optimize heat transfer and offer compact packaging options. EGR valves and actuator technologies by BorgWarner provide precise and responsive control combined with high flow capability, excellent sealing, corrosion resistance and reliable operation. In less than three seconds, BorgWarner’s controlled coolant pump responds directly to engine operating conditions, delivering precise cooling flow with lower parasitic losses. BorgWarner’s controlled coolant pump also features an electronic viscous drive and high modulation capabilities, including optimal operation independent of engine speed for improved fuel economy.
