BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join IT/OT Manufacturing and shop floor applications at our SLP PDS Plant in Mexico.

In this role, and under direct supervision of the IT Manager Shop Floor Systems, the SFS Support Engineer will be the key support for the region of employment to support the strategy, implementation and maintenance of manufacturing and shop floor systems such as, but not limited to Manufacturing Execution System (MES), SCADA, FIS, and SPC solutions. The position will be part of a global team tasked to support these systems utilized within BorgWarner PDS Division. The position will be our IT representative providing hands-on support for these systems on the shop floor working directly with Engineering and Operations. The position will work to implement and upgrade these systems into new and current manufacturing equipment as well as work to integrate with other systems like SAP ERP. The position will work with other IT functional teams to ensure that all devices on the shop floor, whether PC, tablet, RF Gun, etc are identified, secure, patched and protected. The position will also require understanding of networking concepts to help communicate requirements to our IT infrastructure support team.
The SFS Support Engineer must be able to work well with the business end users, manufacturing and controls engineers, operations personnel, and SAP functional leads. This person needs to have the ability to gather business requirements and convert them into functional specifications for use in the design and development of solutions. The successful candidate needs to be able to work independently, communicate business requirements, develop, and configure in the toolsets deployed, perform functional testing to confirm functionality and work with key users to gain approval for all changes before moving changes to the production environment. The person in this role will work towards continuous improvement in processes and end-user skill levels, diligently pursue enhancements to ensure the systems are being used properly and meet the business needs. This person will monitor these solutions for issues/errors and assist in the notification and resolution of the issues.

The SFS Support Engineer will work with both internal and external teams and work cross-functionally between the business and IT to bridge the gaps between design, content, and technology. The position is fully aligned with the business domain and operates as a trusted and well-informed strategic partner. Travel may be required up to 10%.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide day to day SFS support to key users for manufacturing operations and shop floor activities including problem solving and issue resolution.

  • Responsible for gathering business requirements and objectives for projects.

  • Participate in the design, development and configuration for new and existing shop floor systems needed to support critical business strategies.

  • Configuration of the SFS to support the introduction of new products as well as changes to existing products.

  • Configuration, development, debugging and deploying equipment interfaces that support the communication between the SFS and the production equipment.

  • Work closely with internal resources from IT, engineering, and operations on designing, developing, configuring, implementing, and maintaining systems for efficient and effective manufacturing execution.

  • Support the existing SFS applications in use in the production environment.

  • Conduct key user training regarding shop floor systems as needed to ensure the systems are being used properly and that they are meeting business needs.

  • Support key users as needed when they are preparing master data in the system for new products and new equipment.

  • Support the roll out of upgrades in collaboration with the core Manufacturing IT team.

  • Ensuring adherence to process standards and reviewing project deliverables.

  • Responsible for issue resolution or escalation in a timely manner

  • Document and maintain processes.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills (oral and written)

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; work harmoniously and effectively as part of a global team.

  • Ability to work with remote team members across different regions and cultures to ensure positive interactions.

  • Fluent in English, written and verbal. 

Qualifications

Schooling: Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, MIS, Electrical Engineering or other related degree.

Master’s degree preferred

Experience time in similar position: 3+ years’ experience in manufacturing systems software development as well as the development of equipment automation interfaces.

Technical knowledge required:

  • Experience in database development with database servers like Microsoft SQL Server.

  • Experience with web technologies such as: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Angular, NodeJS, ASP.NET, PHP

  • Experience with one or more development languages: C#, TypeScript, SQL, Python, TCL, CGI, VB

  • Experience developing reports in reporting tools like SQL Server Reporting Services and PowerBI.

  • Working knowledge of Windows Server and Linux

  • Preferred experience with the administration and configuration of Critical Manufacturing MES or similar MES suite.

  • Preferred experience with networking concepts and industrial protocols like CIP, EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, etc.

  • Preferred experience with machine connectivity concepts utilizing protocols like OPC UA, IPC-CFX, OIB, TCP\IP and others.

  • Preferred experience with the administration and configuration Ignition SCADA.

  • Preferred experience with the administration and configuration of SPC software.

  • Attention to detail and ability to quickly learn new technologies and tools.
