Position Summary

This role is responsible for leading the Functional Safety and Cyber Security related activities in the context of electronics systems development in Europe. This includes leading the team of Functional Safety Managers, Functional Safety Engineers and Cyber Security Engineers, managing the resources to meet development project requirements and further developing the company’s expertise in the field of Functional Safety and Cybersecurity.

This position reports regionally to the Chief Engineer for Systems Engineering, Europe, and functionally to the Global Functional Safety Management Lead.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Review and approval of project safety management work products (i.e. safety plan, DIA, safety case) as well as cybersecurity work products (i.e. cybersecurity plan, CIA, cybersecurity case)
  • Ensure that all system, software, and hardware risks related to safety and security are defined, captured and monitored in line with ISO26262 and ISO/SAE 21434 standards
  • Review and approval of production intent product releases
  • Work closely with system, software and hardware competencies to ensure Functional Safety and Cyber Security resources are identified to support execution of all related activities and deliveries of work products
  • Manage the project Functional Safety Managers’ (FSM), Functional Safety Engineers (FSE) and Cyber Security Engineers’ (CSE) workload
  • Staffing the regional FSE, FSM and CSE teams according to business growth plans and project needs
  • Maintain and improve regional FSE, FSM and CSE capabilities through training, coaching and certifications
  • Coach and support individual FSE, FSM and CSE in their personal learning and development
  • Provide coaching and guidance on ISO26262 and ISO/SAE 21434 for European PDS projects
  • Planning of ISO26262 and ISO/SAE 21434 trainings for system, software, and hardware competencies
  • Support European business pursuit team in quotation activities by providing functional safety and cybersecurity related resource estimates and preliminary FSM and CS documents
  • Present and report safety and security status of regional projects to higher management
  • Planning, tracking, and maintaining group expenses are within the allocated budget
  • Sourcing of potential 3rd party contractors to support execution of FSM and CSE tasks
  • Support global FS Center of Expertise initiative and process standardization
  • Work with Global Safety and Security Leads to ensure commonality of process, solutions and training.

Education, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or preferably master’s degree in Engineering
  • Major in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Software Engineering
  • Overall 10+ years’ experience in the field of Functional Safety and /or Cybersecurity preferably in the Automotive Industry
  • 3 years’ experience as functional safety engineer for an ASIL D project
  • 2+ years’ experience as cybersecurity engineer for an electronics controller project
  • 5+ years’ experience as project Functional Safety Manager, preferably for inverter controller or other electronics development projects
  • Have completed at least one ASIL C or D project, preferably on electric drive systems
  • Proficient knowledge on ISO26262 standard (Latest version: 2018) and ISO/SAE 21434:2021
  • 10 years’ experience and proven skills in managing multiple teams in complex organizations (leading and directing, staffing, building effective teams)
  • Experience in using engineering V-cycle development processes (A-SPICE)
  • Experience in automotive powertrain and power electronics preferred
  • Understanding of vehicle electronic requirements and power electronics systems requirements
  • Experience on safety analysis (SFMEA, FTA, FMEDA, SW Freedom from Interference)
  • Experience on Threat Analysis and Risk Assessment (TARA)
  • Knowledge on multi-core microprocessor architecture
  • Experience in developing safety and security concepts for sensor, actuator, motor and inverter control functions for power electronic ECU preferred
  • Demonstrated project management, systems engineering, hardware, and software engineering competencies.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and to deadlines when required
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and good interpersonal skills; internal and external reporting on different levels of the organization
  • Fluency in English is required; German/French would be an advantage.
