Job Purpose

BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as a Manager, Software Engineering. The Manager, Software Engineering will implement the PowerDrive Systems software competency strategies that fulfil the BorgWarner product leadership proposition in Electrification for Onboard Charger and DC/DC products. This individual will be responsible to lead, build, align, and drive the team to address the discipline of Basic and Application Software Engineering and development including the related processes according to an Automotive SPICE framework as well as the Software domain know-how in terms of technology, architecture, and concepts. 

Additionally, this individual will lead, empower, and motivate the team of Software Engineering professionals in the design and development of products and technologies that meet the evolving needs of our customers and attract top talent in building the resource capability within this agile organization.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Break down and implementation of BorgWarner’s SW engineering vision into the Engineering team
  • Be part and contribute to the global SW support strategy with a focus on reusable and platform Basic SW components and solutions
  • Establish the competency development roadmap of the team and overseeing the execution

Technical Leadership

  • Drive the different facets of Software engineering including Software architecture, AUTOSAR based development, complex device drivers, platform concepts, communication protocols, low-level, and basic Software development
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the team in the development of AUTOSAR software components, low-level, and complex device drivers

People Leadership

  • Be an integral partner to the global BorgWarner Basic Software Engineering community that supports resolution of technical or project challenges on a global scale
  • Coach, mentor and train the staff to foster talent development of the team members to ensure that a robust team of skilled engineers and leaders is established; leverage succession planning to provide continuing renewal and achievement of the talent strategy
  • Foster the collaborative development environment for project teams; consider and seek out the impact of his/her actions with other engineering leadership; actively seek collaboration with internal and external team members

What We’re Looking For

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering/Science or Electrical Engineering with focus on safety relevant complex automotive embedded systems
  • 10+ Years’ experience with preference of 5+ Years of experience in complex software development, driving mechatronics or electrical machines, software integration, and project execution
  • 5+ years of experience directly managing employees
  • Excellent working experience in BSW and Application SW engineering, AUTOSAR, COM Stacks, Diagnostic Stacks, OS configuration, and Low-Level Drivers preferred
  • Comprehensive understanding of Software development methodology, customer-focused software projects throughout the complete Software development life-cycle; from quotation to production Functional safety background preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of Software development using Model based or C programming language for embedded systems. Matlab Simulink/Stateflow and code generation knowledge is preferred
  • Previous experience leading a Software Engineering development team with strong team building and motivational skills preferred
  • Excellent capability to effectively communicate
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills; able to leverage the knowledge of subject matter experts to come to a point of view and navigate a path forward
  • Ability to drive consensus at levels (parallel, upwards, and downwards) in a complex organization, and drive execution based on decision
  • Ability to travel 20% of the time
  • Fluency in English required
  • Subject matter expert with the ability to coach, mentor and train others
