The Application Engineer is responsible to modify the configuration of the BorgWarner Motor Controller to suit the end application.  Typical applications include electric vehicle AC traction motors  (for both industrial and on-

road vehicles) and also auxiliary motors such as pumps and compressors.

  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical/Electronic/Automation engineering with 6 – 8 years exeprience
  • Electric motor knowledge – AC induction, AC Permanent Magnet Synchronous, DC motors
  • Inverter power electronics 1kW to 100kW and above
  • Embedded C programming experience
  • Proficient in English, written and spoken. Level C1 is minimum required.

  • Modify the configuration of the BorgWarner motor controller to suit the end application. Typical applications include electric vehicle AC traction motors (for both industrial and on-road vehicles) and also auxiliary motors such as pumps and compressors.
  • Interpreting customer specifications and providing technical advice to customers to assist in correct selection of BorgWarner products to be used.
  • Carry out software modifications on the generic product to meet the client requirements and also validating the changes, following the BorgWarner software release processes.
  • Assist customers in vehicle fault-finding and provide guidance to customers regarding vehicle wiring, CAN bus and EMC
  • Customer support to be provided both remotely from BorgWarner sites, and also on-site at vehicle OEM facilities throughout Asia.
  • Involvement with client in the overall vehicle electrical design to ensure system will be safe, reliable and optimised for BorgWarner controller performance.
  • Use methods FMEA and/or Fault Tree Analysis to review system design with the client.
  • Producing customer documentation such as product manuals and motor controller setup procedures
  • Assisting with new product development and developing procedures and software tools for setting up applications
  • Familiar with AC motor characterisation methods: using dynamometer, theoretical calculation and on electric vehicles
  • Knowledge of CAN protocols such as CANopen and J1939
  • Experience of tools such as: MATLAB, SPICE, Excel VB macros, SVN/GIT version control
  • Driving license advantageous for testing customer vehicles
  • Experience of quality process ISO/TS16949 Quality Management System
  • Knowledge of any other spoken languages is a plus
  • Automotive experience is of particular relevance
