Sr Manufacturing Engineer – Process Design

Position Summary

The Sr Process Design Leader will support plant operations and manufacturing engineering by ensuring that the design of the process prevents and detects defects by using the automotive risk-based approach.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the establishment of process design documentation by supporting Cross Functional Team (CFT) during APQP Process Design & Development phase for new and changed manufacturing processes
  • Audit process design records for compliance
  • Insure documentation is compliant to regulating body, customer, and internal Quality Management System (QMS) requirements
  • Provide leadership to CFT to incorporate and validate their processes conform to the QMS
  • Communicate timely and accurately with CFT on findings related to noncompliance to QMS and support corrective action
  • Verify that process design information is effectively maintained following the change management process as required by local QMS customers
  • Assist in defining the process design documentation that is impacted and requires revision when processes are changed
  • Evaluate current product line process design documents to identify gaps and improvements needed for compliance, changes, or other business needs
  • Lead closure of identified gaps following QMS requirements for change management with CFT support
  • Research and improve tools used to document process design records for the business
  • Conduct gap analysis of process outputs and provide appropriate training for related concepts, tools, and software used for managing process design in plant
  • Ensure training is documented
  • Complete training required to meet business objectives
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of site safety and health goals, objectives, rules and procedures
  • Participate in the Global Star Safety Framework (GSSF) program, as well as, follow all EHS rules, procedures and policies
  • Ensure that group activities (design, processes, process change, etc.) incorporate the safety aspect


Education, Skills, Knowledge Requirements

  • BS degree in Engineering or Manufacturing/Industrial Technology from an accredited institution
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills
  • Demonstrated PC Skills: Operating Systems (Windows), MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Knowledge Requirements

  • Minimum of 8+ years Manufacturing or Project Engineering experience in a high-volume production environment
  • Ability to lead cross functional teams without authority
  • Advance knowledge and application of Automotive industry (AIAG) requirements:  ISO/IATF16949, Flow Charts, FMEA, APQP, Control Plan PPAP, SPC, MSA, and related tools
  • Advanced knowledge of MPACT or other process design organization software
  • Continuous improvement and/or cost saving project experience
  • Product Launch, Project Management and Problem-Solving experience
  • Problem solving methodologies:  knowledge and experience in applying them
  • Experience in being a point contact person and coach to other employees in the plant related to expertise area
